The psychoanalytic psychotherapy in the culture of narcissism and within the health system framework

The X Symposium of the Psychoanalytic Section of FEAP proposes a space for reflection on the role of psychotherapy in a society marked by individualism, the exaltation of well-being, and the urgency to suppress discomfort.

This meeting is framed within the working line of the FEAP Board, which recognizes the current challenges of psychotherapy: the growing social recognition, the emergence of new cultural discomforts, and the realization that contemporary complexity exceeds the individual responses that any therapeutic model can offer.

From psychoanalysis —a mental health model that addresses the mind in its intrapsychic, interpersonal, and group dimensions—, we advocate for an intervention that affirms the uniqueness of each person and assumes the ethical commitment to offer sensitive and transformative responses to psychic suffering.

Those of us who work from a psychoanalytic orientation share the conviction that our model constitutes a key matrix for many current psychotherapeutic developments, whose contributions —validated both clinically and empirically— are particularly relevant to address the current mental health crisis.

The Symposium also seeks to contribute to thinking about the care challenges of the health system from a psychoanalytic perspective, offering elements that help improve attention to contemporary discomforts.

In continuity with previous editions and in dialogue with other orientations, this meeting aspires to be a collective space for reflection and plural exchange that renews and projects the clinical value of psychoanalysis.

The scientific program will address key topics such as current clinical practice, care practices, the culture of evaluation, and the impact of technology. A complementary social program will foster a warm environment for professional and human encounters.
