Teaching and Training in Andrology
Fundació Puigvert is a university center and a reference in the training of specialists in andrology. We offer MIR programs, international stays, and a two-year Clinical Andrology Master’s program, accredited by the Central University of Catalonia (UVic) and the European Academy of Andrology.
We recommend consulting an andrologist for any alteration in sexual function (erectile dysfunction, premature or delayed ejaculation), difficulties in achieving pregnancy, persistent genital pain, suspicion of sexually transmitted infections, hormonal alterations, or if changes in testicular function or libido are detected. It is also advisable in cases of Peyronie’s disease, hypogonadism, or any doubts about male sexual and reproductive health.
The most common causes include alterations in sperm production or quality, obstructions in the seminal pathways, hormonal alterations, infections, varicocele, genetic factors, and history of medical or surgical treatments. Environmental and lifestyle factors, such as smoking, stress, or exposure to toxins, can also influence.
Diagnosis is based on a clinical interview, physical examination, and, if necessary, specific tests (hormonal analyses, Doppler ultrasound, etc.). Treatment may include lifestyle changes, oral pharmacological therapy, intracavernous injections, vacuum devices, penile prosthesis surgery, or psychological support, depending on the cause and severity of the dysfunction.
Yes, andrology has specialized units for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic male genital pain, addressing both physical and emotional causes, and offering personalized and multidisciplinary treatments.
At Fundació Puigvert, we also address female sexual health, treating sexual dysfunction, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, and sexually transmitted infections, with a multidisciplinary and personalized approach.
Yes, prevention is based on the use of condoms, early diagnosis, vaccination (such as for the human papillomavirus), and adequate information. We offer prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment programs for STIs.
The main treatment is testosterone replacement therapy, always under medical supervision, along with monitoring of side effects and addressing underlying causes. The need for complementary treatments is also evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Our care protocol includes a clinical interview, physical examination, semen analysis (sperm quality analysis), hormonal tests, and, if necessary, genetic or imaging tests. The goal is to identify the cause and offer the most appropriate treatment.
Yes, Fundació Puigvert has a clinical psychology service specialized in sexual and reproductive health, which works together with the medical team to provide emotional support, individual or couple therapy, and improve the quality of life for patients.
You can access it through a referral from your primary care physician or specialist, or by requesting information directly from us through the contact form.
