Fundació Puigvert↗︎
Transversal Axes
Fundació Puigvert develops innovative and multidisciplinary research, focused on improving the quality of life of patients and transferring knowledge to clinical practice.
The R&D+i of Fundació Puigvert is grouped into four research lines that include rare or minority diseases; urological pathologies; chronic kidney disease; and sexual and reproductive health. All of them are structured based on four transversal axes: innovation, personalized medicine, patient-centered research, and gender perspective.

We investigate,
we develop,
we disseminate
The professionals at Fundació Puigvert are leaders within the scientific community in many areas of their specialties. The nursing team engages in extensive research activities and drives innovation projects. Annual presence at national and international conferences for the dissemination of research results.
Consult more information about our participation in clinical trials and observational studies at CTIS and REEC, respectively.

Andrology and Reproductive Medicine Group
Our Andrology and Reproductive Medicine Group focuses its research, on one hand, on the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility through the genetic study of male infertility and reproductive genomics, as well as “oncofertility”. Part of our work translates into the optimization of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques.
On the other hand, other endocrine disorders are related to male infertility, as well as sexual dysfunctions, which is why much of our clinical research focuses on the development of new surgical procedures, medications, and medical devices applied to andrological diseases and conditions: male sexual dysfunction, hypogonadism, Peyronie’s disease, premature ejaculation, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), among others.

Nephrology Group
Our Nephrology Research Group is part of IR Sant Pau and conducts translational research in the field of kidney diseases. Most of our research is clinical (clinical trials, large patient cohorts, collaborative studies, participation in clinical guidelines, observational studies in specific groups of kidney patients, etc).
We actively participate in national research networks on kidney diseases, as well as in some European ones.

Urology Group
The Urology Group of Fundació Puigvert develops translational and clinical research in the field of urological diseases, aiming to improve diagnosis, surgical treatment, and the quality of life of patients throughout all stages of life. The research focuses particularly on oncological urology (prostate, bladder, kidney, testicle, and penis cancer), urinary lithiasis, functional urology, pediatric urology, and kidney transplant surgery, prioritizing robotic surgery and minimally invasive techniques.
The Urology Research Group is part of the Sant Pau Research Institute (IR Sant Pau) as a clinical group. It works on the development of advanced surgical techniques, diagnosis and treatment of urological tumors, and innovation in minimally invasive surgery. The Urinary Lithiasis Unit stands out for the study and treatment of kidney stones, with its own laboratory for the analysis and prevention of lithiasis.

Nursing Group
The Nursing Research Group of Fundació Puigvert was created to promote quantitative and qualitative research and R&D projects that improve care and the experience of patients with urological, renal, and reproductive pathologies. From a person-centered perspective closely linked to clinical practice, the group generates knowledge to drive real improvements in care and the sustainability of the system.
The main lines of work focus on:
The care and therapeutic education of people with kidney disease, urological problems, sexual health, and assisted reproduction
Innovation in care products and solutions that provide well-being to people
Qualitative techniques to incorporate patient experience and drive continuous improvement and process optimization
The group promotes studies on patient safety, treatment adherence, quality of life, self-care, and the experience of patients and family or caregivers, with special attention to fragility and coordination with other care levels.
Methodologically, the Nursing Research Group combines its own projects with participation in multicentric initiatives and innovation programs, often in collaboration with other research groups of Fundació Puigvert and IIB Sant Pau.
