Fundació Puigvert↗︎
We take care of your bladder to preserve your quality of life.
We are experts in the comprehensive approach to bladder cancer,
from the most superficial lesions to muscle-invasive tumors, with specific pathways for private consultations and second opinions.
Bladder cancer:
what it is and when to consult
Bladder cancer is a tumor that originates in the inner wall of the urinary bladder and can range from superficial to deep, reaching to infiltrate the bladder muscle.
The most common symptoms are the presence of blood in the urine (hematuria), with or without pain, and changes in urination (increased frequency, urgency, discomfort). In the presence of these signs, it is important to undergo a specialized evaluation.
How we study and diagnose your case
To properly assess bladder cancer, we use:
High-definition cystoscopy
With EVIS X1 endoscopic technology and enhanced imaging (NBI), allowing better visualization of tumors and their extensions.
Imaging tests
Ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, to determine the extent to which the disease affects the bladder and other organs.
Histopathological study
Study of the lesions surgically removed endoscopically and stains for molecular studies.
CAD
High-definition cystoscopy
Better visualization of tumors
PI
Imaging tests
To determine the extent to which the disease affects the bladder and other organs.
EA
Histopathological study
To define the type of tumor
If you have been detected with blood in your urine or have been informed about lesions in the bladder, we can help you clarify the diagnosis and the steps to follow.
Main procedures: coherence between tumor
and treatment
We select the treatment based on the depth and risk of the tumor, always seeking a balance between oncological control and quality of life.
Superficial tumors
(non-muscle-invasive)
Transurethral resection of the bladder
(TURBT):
Removal of tumors from inside the bladder using endoscopy, often as a first diagnostic and therapeutic step.
En bloc transurethral resection (En bloc TUR)
Advanced technique that removes the tumor in one piece to improve evaluation and oncological control.
Intravesical treatment
Chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy directly inside the bladder for high-risk tumors, to reduce the risk of recurrence.
TUR
TURB
En bloc transurethral resection
Advanced endoscopic technique without tumor fragmentation
RI
Muscle-invasive
tumors
Radical cystectomy:
Complete removal of the bladder and lymph nodes, with reconstruction of the urinary system (external pouch or internal neobladder, depending on the case).
Robotic radical cystectomy
(Da Vinci / HUGO):
Minimally invasive high-complexity surgery, allowing for precise dissection, less bleeding, less pain, and faster recovery.
Combined treatments with medical oncology and radiotherapy
When indicated, within a multidisciplinary approach.

Every bladder tumor is different.
We will discuss with you all options (endoscopic, intravesical, and surgical) to decide together the best path.
Robotic bladder surgery:
expertise and leadership
Fundació Puigvert is a European reference center for bladder cancer and one of the hospitals with the most experience in radical cystectomy.
We were the first center in Spain to perform a cystectomy with the Da Vinci robotic system and the first in the world to perform a radical cystectomy with the HUGO™ robot, a procedure of very high complexity.
This trajectory allows us to offer
robotic bladder surgeries with:
Three-dimensional visualization and great precision in tumor dissection and removal.
Less bleeding, less postoperative pain, and shorter hospital stays.
Better planning of urinary reconstruction and a functional recovery tailored to your situation.
How we study and diagnose your case
Our approach is not limited to surgery:
we accompany you through all phases of the process.
Urological, oncological, and specialized nursing assessment to prepare you for treatment.
Assessment of the impact of bladder removal (when necessary) on your daily life and support to choose the most suitable type of urinary diversion.
Follow-up programs to detect recurrences and monitor your long-term health.
We accompany you in clinical decisions and the impact that bladder cancer can have on your daily life.
Why trust
your bladder to Fundació Puigvert?
We are a specialized university center of reference in urology, with a specialized oncological urology unit for bladder cancer and extensive experience in robotic surgery and high-precision endoscopy.
We accompany you with human and personalized care, advanced diagnostics, minimally invasive treatments, and follow-up programs to protect your health, your continence, and your sexual life.
